Description
ITALIAN COURSE
A thorough understanding of anatomy is essential for anyone wishing to perform surgery. This intensive course aims to guide dentists toward proper surgical technique through the anatomical dissection of fresh cadavers, examining the oral structures most frequently involved in daily surgical practice and the most vulnerable anatomical structures to better understand topographic anatomy and assess surgical risks in the event of injury to these structures. In addition, implant surgeries will be performed on cadavers, ranging from basic to advanced implantology.
Course participants will:
- improve their anatomical understanding.
- learn the anatomical foundations for performing surgeries safely.
- be able to explain to patients, in the most appropriate manner, the biological costs and benefits of the various treatment options covered.

Practical session on a fresh cadaver, surgical techniques:
- Anatomical dissection of the maxilla: nasopalatine duct; palatine foramina; Bichat’s fat pad; maxillary sinus and, if present, the alveoloantral artery; piriform aperture of the nose; infraorbital foramen; infraorbital nerve; Stenon’s duct; TMJ.
- Anatomical dissection of the mandible: mental foramen; mental nerve from its exit from the foramen to its branching in the mucosa; lingual nerve (lingual body); lingual nerve (oral floor); cutaneous branch of the facial artery; facial artery.
- Implant placement and placement of immediate post-extraction implants, flaps, and sutures.
Prof. Umberto Zanetti
Graduate in Medicine and Surgery, Specialist in Maxillofacial Surgery, Specialist in Microbiology and Virology. He practiced surgery at the Maxillofacial Unit of the Azienda Spedali Civili di Brescia as Head of the Maxillofacial Surgery Unit within the Head and Neck Department. Maxillofacial consultant for the San Donato Group of Hospitals in Brescia, with a particular focus on advanced implant surgery and the surgical treatment of dento-skeletal deformities. Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Brescia, teaching the integrated course in Maxillofacial Surgery for the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Medicine and Surgery and for the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics.
