The maxillary sinus lift is a procedure performed to increase the amount of bone in the molar area of the upper arch to prepare it for the placement of one or more dental implants.
When upper molars are lost, the sinus cavity tends to move closer to the maxillary ridge; over the time, the edges of the cavity can be so near to the ridge that there is no bone left to place implants.
By “raising” the Schneider’s membrane that covers the floor of the maxillary sinus, the dentist is able to add autologous, heterologous or synthetic bone materials to re-create the adequate conditions for implant placement.
The special 3 ATRAUMATIC drills included into the RIALTO KIT have been designed to keep the Schneider membrane intact, allowing the penetration of the cortical bone of the sinus floor in a risk-free manner.
IT INCLUDES 20 DRILL-STOPS
for an extremely precise and safe progression into the bone.
It consists of 4 drills for initial preparation
and 3 ATRAUMATIC drills to finalize the preparation.
Additional 6 instruments to elevate the membrane and perform final checks are included, to be used
with 2 handles with ISO connection, for a comfortable and functional execution of the detachment and raise of Schneider’s membrane.
To allow for a fully customized and user-friendly surgical procedure.
After the incision, use the twist drill for initial preparation.
The purpose of these drills is to perform a preparation up to 1-2 mm from the floor of the maxillary sinus.
The drilling depth can be adjusted using the drill stops included in the kit.
The drill-stops intended for the Rialto kit can be identified by the laser marking “SL” on each drill stop.
These drills must not come into contact with the Schneider’s membrane as the cutting edges may perforate the sinus mucosa.
The multi-cutter drills are then used to continue the preparation until the Schneider’s membrane is reached.
During this procedure, the drilling depth must be increased by employing proper drill stops, extended by 1 mm each time.
Multi-cutter drills are designed to abrade only the cortical bone close to the membrane.
The specific design of these drills allows not to damage the soft tissues, by using them with extreme caution and with a maximum rotary speed of 800 rpm.
The laser-marked “SL” stops are compatible with both twist drills and the multi-cutter drills included in the RIALTO kit; they are not compatible with the drills of other surgical kits.
Through the sinus lift periosteals included in the kit, it is therefore possible to elevate the membrane in order to obtain a volume for a suitable bone substitute or just for the blood clot kept into position by the implant placement.
The proper regeneration material is then inserted into the space that is created, taking the original place of the sinus cavity.
The amount of bone to be used may vary, although typically many millime- tres of bone tissue are generally needed.
Once the material is inserted, proceed with suturing.
The implant will be placed a few months after, depending on the material that was used for the graft,
or at the same time if the necessary anatomic conditions are met, and if implants used are capable of a good primary stability even with minimal amounts of bone.
